Inner work is one of those topics that has blown up, being talked about left and right – everywhere you look on social media now is a mention of inner work. Why? Why is it so important? Why do it? Do you really need to do it? Is it really necessary? All valid questions.
No, you don’t need to do it, but nothing will ever truly change if you don’t. Inner work is not just a fad or the latest trend; it is absolutely necessary if you wish to genuinely transform your life. It is a commitment and it takes work.
Our external reality – our life – is a direct reflection of our inner world. So what is going on within us creates what we see and experience outside of us. You see the world through the lens of your belief systems, conditioning, traumas, and past life experiences. If you haven’t done any inner work there is a high possibility this is not serving your greatest good – in other words, they are limiting belief systems, societal conditioning and standards (as opposed to your own standards of what actually makes you happy), and unhealed trauma responses.
Your belief systems and perceptions are what creates your reality. So if they are limiting or negative, that is what you will see to be true in your life. If you feel held back, stuck, unhappy, or even trapped in the life you so desperately wish would change – this is why. And the only thing that will be able to change that in a sustainable and meaningful way is by going inwards and doing the inner work to create an inner world that builds you a beautiful external world.
Inner work is how you rewire your belief systems to be supportive, heal past traumas or pain (and create a new relationship to them that is based in love not resentment), and uncover things you didn’t consciously know were there but have been affecting the way you live your life. It’s taking an open and honest look at yourself and what is lying under the surface. It’s looking at your fears with curiosity instead of immediately shying away. It’s getting uncomfortable so you can find comfort in a life that brings you joy. It’s connecting with and healing your inner child. It’s uncovering your authentic self, your soul’s true desires, and building the belief and confidence to fully step into and own that.
Inner work is how I was able to heal depression and find peace in some of the traumas I have faced (others are deeper and take more time, attention, and love to heal). Inner work is how I found the courage to be who I truly am at my core and let go of what everyone else thinks.
There is so much beauty that comes from doing inner work, but it is not easy. The process itself is rarely beautiful and glamorous; it is hard and it can be triggering (as you are literally bringing up your past to be seen, heard, and healed). What comes from this process though, is beautiful and it is glamorous because it is a life you can truly vibe with and a life you can find joy in living.
So if you have tried to make changes in your life – true changes in the way you live that life – but nothing has stuck, then it may be time to consider inner work. You really do hold all the answers. Nowadays, it is too easy to be shut off to ourselves and what is going on under the surface, blocking those answers from being heard… but they are there, waiting for you to open up to the possibility of them.
Inner work is how you get back your power – the power that has been given away to the ego and it’s limiting beliefs, external circumstances and conditions, people and society as a whole… essentially, everything and everyone but yourself. Inner work brings a deep level of understanding for yourself and as you get to know yourself on a deeper level, you take that power back and own the fck out of who you are at your core. It brings with it inner peace and mental freedom. It is how you create a life by your own design – instead of life happening to you, it happens for you.
Inner work is hard work, but it has given me my life back.
And to me, that’s more than worth it.
With endless love and good vibes,
Ash xx
